Part Three
Deep space
The Kortac fired at the squads, who returned fire. DanZero kept his mind on the matters at hand, trying not to worry if the others are doing all right. K'Rar kept checking Dan's progress, while firing at the Kortac fighters.
"Well, Earther," K'Rar said into his communicator, "you are doing very well. I'm surprised."
"Thanks, K'Rar, I do my best." Dan responded, he then noticed three Kortac fighters coming in behind K'Rar. "K'Rar, you've got three behind you."
K'Rar cursed in his native tongue then ordered to Dan, "Go on, I'll try and handle them."
"Sorry, K'Rar, I'm not leaving you behind. I don't care how good you say you are, you can't handle the three of them on your own."
Dan flew up beside K'Rar's fighter, he could see K'Rar was disappointed that Dan disobeyed him, but it was too late to do anything.
"Very well, Zero. Shall we change places with these lizards?"
"You take the high road, I'll take the low road."
K'Rar understood what Dan was suggesting, he pulled his throttle up, Dan pushed his down. K'Rar flew up and over the Kortac, doing a loop and winding up behind the enemy. Dan did the same thing, only went underneath. The two fired on the Kortac before they could do anything.
"Very good, Zero. There's hope for you yet."
DanZero just shook his head, I have got to get this guy to like me. he thought
Elsewhere, the rest of the Cappers were doing well. CyberBeast and Cave Dweller were destroying Kortac left and right. Torgone kept the Kortac from getting near the Victory 7. MSTieLyn and YingYang were also doing well, even with Ying yelling obscenities into the communicator for everyone to hear.
Bridge of The Victory 7
Commander Garix turned to Captain Halrex, "Sir, is THAT anatomically possible?"
"I believe that YingYang is being a typical Earther." The captain replied with a smile
The tactical officer turned to the Captain, "Sir, the Kortac carrier is readying it's weapons. They're going to fire at us."
"Raise shields," ordered Garix.
Halrex turned to the communications officer, "Tell Olox the situation. Send some fighters over there to try and draw the carriers attention."
"Yes, Captain." the officer replied
Space
DanZero listened to Olox explain to the squads the situation, he looked over towards K'Rar's fighter.
"Hey, K'Rar," he said, "we're closer to that carrier than anyone else."
"It's a suicide run." K'Rar explained, "We're to distract the carrier till the Victory 7 is able to fire without hitting any of our people."
"Let's run it, dude."
"Very well, let's. Olox, DanZero and I will distract the carrier. You and the others clear a firing path for the Victory 7."
"Be careful, the both of you." Olox replied
DanZero and K'Rar hit their thrusters and flew straight for the Kortac carrier.
The Kortac carrier
The Kortac commander watched the screen as the two enemy fighters headed straight for them.
"What are those two fools doing?" he asked "Surely, they can't expect to destroy our ship?"
His first officer responded, "I believe that they are going to distract us from firing. Those ships can damage our hull, in which case we'd need to put our shields up. We put our shields up and..."
"And we can't fire our weapons." the commander replied, "Contact our fighters, have a few take care of those two."
"Yes, commander."
Space
DanZero and K'Rar fired their weapons. The laser beams bounced off the carriers protective shields. K'Rar laughed.
"As long as we keep firing," he said, "they can't lower their shields to fire."
DanZero smiled, which quickly disappeared, "And these fighters aren't equipped with shields, are they?"
"Why should they be. We cannot fire with the shields up."
"Oh yea," DanZero replied, still not encouraged, "you have a point."
MSTieLyn's voice came over the communicator, "Dan, you guys have four Kortac fighters heading your way."
"Damn." Dan said, "Have you guys cleared the path for the Victory 7?"
"Yes." Olox replied, "They are waiting for you two to clear out."
K'Rar flew next to Dan, "Very well, let's go. We'll fight the four heading towards us away from the carrier."
The two fighters flew away from the carrier. The four Kortac fighters pursued.
Kortac carrier
The commander turned to his first officer.
"Have we time to fire the weapons?"
"No, commander, the enemy have already launched several space torpedoes. They will hit within seconds. We still have time to make the jump to another dimension"
"Very well, fire on those two fighters before we leave."
Space
DanZero and K'Rar had finally finished off the Kortac fighters when a space torpedo hit the tail of K'Rar's ship.
"K'RAR!" yelled Dan, "Are you able to fly?"
"Negative. Dan, another torpedo coming towards you. Leave."
"Not without you. Cappers don't leave friends behind. I'll handle the torpedo."
Dan fired and hit the torpedo. He then turned and watched as K'Rar's ship flew aimlessly away.
"DanZero," Olox called over the communicator, "Return to the Victory 7, immediately."
DanZero turned his communicator off, and flew after K'Rar's fighter.
Hanger of The Victory 7
Captain Halrex walked into the hanger as all the pilots were getting out of their fighters. Olox and the other Cappers walked up to him.
"Sir," Olox said, "K'Rar's ship was badly damaged, he's unable to control it. DanZero flew after him, disobeying my orders to return to ship.
"We have to go after him." Torgone said.
"We can't." Halrex replied
"What?" MSTieLyn asked
"Why the hell not?" YingYang asked
