Part Two
Council Chamber
It is known only by a few outsiders. Said to have dated back to before the time of the Crucifixion. The Council of Chaos and Order. Thirteen members sat on the council, their purpose to keep mankind from falling into the chaos. Six members wore the robes of white, representing Order. six members wore the robes of black, representing Chaos. One member, and only one, wore the robe of gray, standing on the border of Chaos and Order, representing times that man makes the decision between the two.
For now, only twelve, six white, six black, all wearing their robes with their hoods pulled over their faces, sat at the council table. The thirteenth chair remained empty, no replacement was chosen to replace him, in hopes that he would return.
One white stood up, "It has begun," he said "the shadows are preparing for their masters return to this realm. Our missing member must be prepared."
One black stood up, "He left us after she died." she added "Would he welcome our visit?"
"Never the less, he must be prepared." the white continued "We shall send word to him. He cannot win the battle that will come, unless he has our help."
"Very well, send The Angel to him. He has never spoken cross to her before. He may listen to her."
"Then it is agreed?"
All members nodded their heads. It was time for the He who walks between the shadow and the light to revisit the council.
Augusta, GA
After the sheriff and the FBI agent left, The Gray Zombie and Opus1432 drove down the hidden road, heading towards Augusta. The Gray Zombie had remained silent, Opus decided it was time for some answers.
"Ok," she said, "It's time to ask a few questions. First, why do you have a pet alligator, and why is he so friendly?"
"Edgar was a scientific experiment. They were trying to work on a way to keep alligators and such animals from being so pissed off all the time. He's got a device connected to his medulla oblongata, which is keeping his temper in check. He won't attack unless he's threatened or someone who he cares about is threatened. Like a dog," Gray explained, "I broke into the research lab and freed all those test animals, Edgar just followed me home. That's why I moved to the swamp."
"Ok, question number two, why do you live in the swamp?"
"Because the mausoleum was full. It's not as bad as everyone thinks it is. I think it's alive in more ways than one, but, like Edgar, it won't attack unless it's threatened. Aside from installing my plumbing system, electricity and such, I've pretty much left it all alone and enjoyed it's beauty."
"Cool, now for my third question, and I want an answer, who are the Shadow Boxers?"
Gray Zombie let out a heavy sigh, "You're going to keep bugging me until I tell you, aren't you?"
"Damn Skippy."
"Ok, as long as you stop your damn cussing, I'll tell you. They're demons."
"And?"
"Nobody knows the proper pronunciation to their actual name, we called them Shadow Boxers because it was like fighting real shadows, like boxing shadows much like boxers do when training."
"We? EBA and the other Augusta Cappers?"
"No. We all had lives before we took up Capping and then joining Tolstoy in saving Earth from the Kortac. I was part of an organization which I don't want to talk about. But I was also a demon hunter."
"Oh, so how come you never invited some of your demon hunting buddies to help us fight the Kortac?"
"Because there was only one that I worked closely with. She and I had been friends for a very long time. We were both born at the same time, separate families, natch. I...loved her. A lot."
Opus looked forward at downtown Augusta, beginning to regret being nosy. "oh....."
"The leader of the Shadow Boxers.....he...."
"Uncle Gray, I think I get the idea. I'm sorry for prying."
"Ah, it's ok. Never really talked about it that much. Maybe that's been my problem. Anyway, after she died, I left......disappeared for a couple of years. When I felt it was time to return, I did. Eventually, I took up Capping and I wound back up fighting things that aren't human. Frippin' ironic, ain't it?"
Opus smiled, "So that explains why a lot of stuff hardly phases you. After fighting demons, ain't nothing surprising."
"Well, there was this one time that YingYang was capping and for forty five minutes he never made one perverted cap. Shocked the hell out of me."
When they reached downtown Augusta, Gray parked in front of a place called "Pops". Opus got out and looked at the place.
"Ok, that's a teenage hangout. Go in and have fun." Gray said as he locked his car. "I'm going across the street to get a few things."
"Pops?" Opus said "Uncle Gray, I will do as you ask and hang out with teenagers, but I'm NOT going to hang out with Betty and Veronica. Well, I might go out with Jughead."
Gray Zombie kissed her on the cheek. "That's my girl. Go on have fun. Enjoy yourself," he gave her a money clip, clipped with money, "have a burger on me."
He walked across the street. Opus went into Pop's.
Pop's
Opus looked around the place. It was your typical burger joint, like one seen in the 50's, but with that modern look and feel. She walked over to the counter and sat down. An elderly looking man walked over to her.
"Hey, how are you?" he asked
"Fine." Opus replied
"I've never seen you around here before. They call me Pop's. This is my place."
"I am new around here. They call me Opus. And this is a nice place."
"Thank you. You came in with Zombie?"
"Kind of a surrogate uncle. I've been sort of "home schooling" and everyone thinks that it's time for me to learn a few socializing skills. Uncle Gray was the only one who wasn't real busy."
"Ah, well, you've come to the right place. Let me know when you're ready to order."
Later, as Opus ate her burger and fries. Someone cleared their voice behind her. She turned to see who wanted her attention. The only guys that she ever knew were all Cappers, but if there were more non-Cappers like the one she was now looking at, she would gladly leave Capper Central in a heart beat.
"Yes." she asked, trying to be nonchalant
"Hi, I'm Steve. Umm, I've never seen you in here before." the new guy said
"I'm new in town. Would you like to have a seat?"
"Thanks"
Behind Pop's
Aaron walked out the back door. He loved working at Pop's but working the grill could be too much at times. He lit a cigarette and sat on the back step.
"Excuse me."
Aaron jumped up, the stranger startled him. "Oh, man, don't do that. Sheesh, almost gave me a heart attack."
"I'm so sorry." the stranger said, Aaron noticed his complexion made him look as if he was in the shade. "I was wondering if I could bum a cigarette off you?"
"Oh, sure" Aaron handed him a cigarette, "You work around here?"
"I'm doing some "odd jobs" for my....employer. It just happens that I'm here."
"Oh, I see," Aaron held out his hand "my name's Aaron."
The stranger took his hand. Aaron suddenly felt very strange. He wanted to scream, but was unable.
"My name is Axion."
Inside Pop's
"So, anyway, my friends are having a party Friday night. If you aren't busy, would you like to go?" Steve continued
"Sounds pretty nice, I think I might be able to." Opus replied
The Gray Zombie walked into the building. Everyone stopped, except Pop, he knew the Gray Zombie for years and always felt safe when he was around. Gray walked up to Opus. Steve gulped.
"Opus, you going to hang around?" Gray asked, "I've got a few other places to go to. I can come back for you."
"Sure," Opus said, "Uncle Gray, this is Steve Kendrickson. He's a freshman at Augusta State University. He invited me to a party tomorrow night. Is it ok?"
"Sure, you're the careful type. I think we can trust you."
"Uncle Gray?" Steve asked "You never said you're uncle was the Gray Zombie."
Opus looked at him, "You never asked. Oh, what? You scared to go to the party with me?"
"No. I mean, it's just a party. With a live band. The Masturbating Zombies....ummm, no offense sir."
Gray shook his head, "None taken. Although they may want to talk with a friend of mine, she was the one who came up with that name."
A scream was heard from out back. Gray Zombie and Pop ran to investigate.
"Opie, stay here." Gray said
Opus let out a sigh, "Yes, Uncle Gray. I'll be a normal teenager, and stay."
Out back
Pop and The Gray Zombie came out of the back door. A waitress was in tears over what she had discovered. Aaron the cook was dead, his skin looking as if a shadow had fallen over it.
"God, no" Pop's said, "Not again."
The Gray Zombie looked up the alley. A group of people started heading towards them. But Gray's attention was directed at a beautiful woman standing at the entrance to the alley. She had long blond hair and wore white.
"Damn it" Gray Zombie muttered, "Go away and leave me alone."
Elsewhere
Yes. Axion. Continue with the sacrifices. Soon I shall be freed. Release the warriors. There is a gathering soon. Save the female named "Opus". It shall be my pleasure to kill another female that HE cares deeply about.
The Light shall fall, and Darkness shall prevail.
To Be Continued
(The story continues. And I'll even have Edgar in it as well)
